At Kohl’s, we expect our store management teams to go above and beyond for the customer – and our Kohl’s store executives deliver on this promise. Our store executives manage a significant retail sales volume, while leading, directing and motivating a large team of store Associates.
We are seeking talented managers who can provide effective leadership in areas including store presentation, customer service, sales and operating profit, payroll and expense management, inventory control and the retention and supervision of all Associates.
What responsibilities do store managers have?
Most Kohl’s stores are managed by four executives: one Store Manager and three Assistant Store Managers. All four managers have total store accountability and work together for total store performance. Below is a brief overview of each manager’s responsibilities:
Store Manager: Oversees and is responsible for all store operations, merchandising, profit and loss, training and development of assistant managers, hiring goals and retention.
Assistant Store Manager, HR/Operations: Responsibilities include managing payroll and store-controllable expenses, hiring, training and motivating high-performance work teams, receiving, maintenance, overnight stock/early morning replenishment, front registers, customer service desk and the ad-set team.
Assistant Store Manager, Apparel & Accessories: Oversees all merchandising and team development for the men's, women's, juniors', young men's, intimate apparel, accessories and jewelry departments.
Assistant Store Manager, Children's, Footwear, Home: Oversees all merchandising and team development for children's, shoes, sports apparel, luggage, housewares, domestics, seasonal, stationery and toy departments.
Overnight Executive: In our larger volume stores, the overnight executive is responsible for managing receiving, maintenance, replenishment and ad-set teams.
Executive Position Requirements
For each of our store executive positions, we expect the following core experiences and abilities:
- Demonstration of professional accomplishments through results-driven behavior and team-development abilities
- Efficient planning and organizational skills
- Ability to recognize and understand available resources and utilize them to meet and exceed the store's sales plan and expense controls
- Ability to lead and develop a large team of Associates
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with a variety of audiences
- History of anticipating challenges and developing solutions to problems at hand
- Prefer a minimum of 3-5 years managing a significant retail volume in a high-growth retailing environment
